Flashbacks To Ange's Darkest days🪦
📍Tottenham 1-2 Fulham (Premier League GW 13) 📊
So it’s with a heavy heart I have to write another negative view of my experience of Tottenham vs Fulham which I watched at home on TV on a miserable November Saturday night.
Fulham at home was never an easy fixture but I do remember the days when that was an expected 3 points that most likely would be a 3 points. Now though you cannot bank on Tottenham doing anything positive, especially at home.
The calamity that ensued in the first half was the kind of display we got used to seeing under Ange towards the end of his tenure at White Hart Lane. It’s like the players have lost any confidence that they had when they are playing at home.
It’s a toxic combination of disgruntled home fans who have seen dross served up week in week out since what seems like forever and a team of players who are desperately looking for form and maybe a bit of luck.
It also lays bare that Tottenham’s squad is severely being examined and the results are that Van De Ven is the only player in this Spurs side playing up to his billing because the remaining boys in the side are looking like boys vs men every week Tottenham play and especially so at home.
Should we blame the injuries? Maybe..
Should we blame the tactics? Maybe..
Should we blame the fans for venting their frustration at having to pay upwards of £70 per week to watch that sh*t… NEVER EVER
These boys in this squad need to take a long hard look at themselves and own the fact that the performances have not been up to scratch this season and 12th in the league actually is the correct position for this very average bunch of players.
The frustration for me is that this team has the potential to do better with just a few tweaks and maybe some luck with injuries.
Tweaks would be making the right signings, making the right calls on formations and tactics as well as making the right substitutions at key moments.
Spurs had fought their way back into the match on Saturday night after going 2 down early in the first half. They got it back to 1-2 with a Kudus thunderbolt that nearly took the keeper’s arm and then just as there was hope, Frank makes changes that sucked the air out of the momentum and allowed Fulham to waltz to the end of the match. A result might have papered cracks but taking off a forward (Richy) ,who with Muani had looked threatening was just a ridiculous tactical sub that left me frustrated more than anything that Frank has done this season.
It felt like he was playing for 1-2 at a time when Tottenham had Fulham well and truly on the ropes! Everyone knows that football is about momentum and that if you have momentum then 1 goal leads to 2 and could have even led to 3 but you know what, we’ll never know what could have happened if Tottenham had played out the last part of the game with 2 up top because the so called gaffer made such a basic error in judgement.
I get the feeling that Frank is listening to the science more than he does his gut feel and probably pulled Richy to save his legs for Tuesday. But sometimes mate, you gotta play the game and remain in the now rather than pulling somebody off the piutch because of a risk of something that might happen.
Next Up Newcastle Away..
